Walluf 19 July 2006 – Juan Carlos García has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Assa Abloy ITG as of 1 July 2006. The Identifica-tion Technologies business unit of the Swedish group Assa Abloy specialises in RFID and smart card technologies in the field of ID management. The new CEO's chief task is the strategic repositioning of the brands ACG Identifica-tion Technologies, Sokymat, VisionCard and Omnikey under the umbrella of Assa Abloy ITG. Based in Germany, García is responsible for ITG’s global business, and reports to Joe Grillo, Executive Vice President of Assa Abloy's Global Technologies Division (GTD).
Juan García brings over 20 years of experience to his new job. As the former CEO and COO of ORGA Kartensysteme – one of the world's leading smart card manufacturers – he has gained extensive experience of the industry. García, who was born in Spain, has also held leading positions in multinational companies such as Terex Atlas, GEA Ecoflex, Wittenborg and Raychem.
One of the CEO's main tasks is repositioning Assa Abloy ITG, under which the companies ACG Identification Technologies, Sokymat, VisionCard and Omnikey are united. ACG Identification Technologies is a leading supplier of components and technology for the smart card and RFID markets, Sokymat is the world's largest manufacturer of RFID transponders,
VisionCard produces and markets a wide range of smart cards and other cards, and Omnikey is one of the market leaders in the field of PC-connected reading devices for smart cards. In addition to the reorganisation of the portfolio and better use of synergies within the companies already involved, integration of further companies is on the agenda. The restructuring is planned for the near future.
“I'm very much looking forward to being involved in shaping the success of such an important player as Assa Abloy ITG at a strategic level,” says García. “To satisfy the dynamic market for ID management and RFID a lot must happen at the provider end. With a new and improved organisational structure we can position the long experience and expertise of the individual companies more precisely on the market. Besides, with an improved structure, we can implement major projects such as the collaboration in electronic passport projects in a highly professional way.”
“Throughout his professional career Juan García has demonstrated true leadership qualities,” says Joe Grillo. “He has an extensive international business background and a broad experience in the smart card market. Juan García will undoubtedly play an important role in the further success of the management team and in developing synergies between established brand names such as Sokymat, ACG, VisionCard and Omnikey.”
Juan García holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid (Spain) and an MBA from IMD in Lausanne (Switzerland).
